STATEMENT

Many times, in science, there are several people who are accredited with the development of an invention or theory; knowledge and technology are passed on and built upon from generation to generation. The contributions Thomas Edison gave to the field of science and film are crucial pieces in the birth of modern film. without the first motion picture cameras, there would be nothing to inspire others to develop and improve upon them, therefore the birth would have to be prolonged and we would have nothing but a picture to remember it by.

SUMMARY

Thomas Edison is a great American inventor. He is associated with the light bulb, the phonograph and the kinetoscope. These inventions catapulted america to the forefront of multimedia technology and circuit board technology. these inventioned opened the door to all of the small circucit board based electronics we have today.
there is no doubt that without thomas edison's discoveries we would not be living in a world with the ability to easily communicate.

DESCRIPTION

Throughout American history, there are many men and women that are immortalized for their contributions to society. One of the greatest of those is Thomas Edison. In his early years he developed telegraph products for Western Union Telegraph Company. He created a carbon transmitter which improved audibility on the telephone. His work with electric light led to the creation of the incandescent light bulb. The “Edison Effect” opened the door in the field of electronics. There is no doubt that he deserved the congressional gold medal for his accomplishments!

Thomas Edison holds a record 1093 patents in all different fields. The phonograph, a device that began to take shape in 1877, was one that Edison worked at improving throughout his whole life. His passion for this device flooded over into an interest, not only in recording sounds as they were happening, but to record a moment in time. Edison was documented as saying he wanted to create, “an instrument which does for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear.”

In that statement, an idea was born.  Thomas Edison was the first to develop and patent a motion picture camera: the kinetograph. This invention opened the doors to the film industry. Before, only still photos could capture a moment in time, just a moment. After the invention of the kinetograph the world could see a series of photos displayed in such a way that the movement of the subject could be watched from beginning of the film to the end.
